The Rockford IceHogs (AHL) have recalled goalie Joe Palmer, it was announced today. Palmer, who is playing in his first professional season, attended training camp with the IceHogs early this fall. The rookie netminder currently holds the fourth best GAA in the league (2.54) and leads all rookies in the League’s three star honors category with 15 points. Palmer has won his past two games and recorded his first career shutout in Laredo in November.
“Joe has been playing solid lately and continues to improve. This is a great opportunity for him to go out and display his abilities in a different league”, Brahmas coach Dan Wildfong said.
The IceHogs are currently in second place (behind the Texas Stars) in the West Division with a 14-12-3 record. The IceHogs are affiliated with the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL.
There's no indication how long Palmer will be out. The IceHogs started a different goalie in each of their three games last weekend, including Alec Richards, Joe Fallon and Dan Cloutier. Richards was re-assigned to the Toledo Walleye (ECHL) last Saturday after earning a win the previous night.
In the meantime, the Brahmas have signed Cody Daniel to serve as a back-up to Brett Jaeger.
