Crazed Allen defenseman Brandon Straub is restrained by Burto and Cameron after attacking Hiebert

When goons attack...

Allen's Britt Dougherty and Brandon Straub assault James Hiebert during pre-game warm-ups

Everyone knew that Allen would be gunning for James Hiebert after the hit Hiebert put on goalie Charlie Effinger during the game in Allen on November 28th. What no one knew was how chicken shit Allen goon Brandon Straub was until they saw his actions during the pre-game warm-ups on Wednesday night.

It all started with some jawing between Straub and Hiebert. Straub skated up to Hiebert at the blue line and started mouthing off. Britt Dougherty and Luke Sellars skated up. Sellars shoved Straub and the four started fighting. After Straub was finished with him, Sellars left the ice while Dougherty and Hiebert continued to fight.

After they initially broke it up, Dougherty went after Hiebert again but was kept separated by Allen captain Jarret Lukin.

Along comes a crazed Straub who comes around and sucker punches Hiebert square in the face. After Hiebert gets back to his feet, Straub came after him again and pushed him to the ice.

Dougherty kept up his verbal tirade and Hiebert got up and punched Dougherty in the left jaw, knocking his helmet off of his head. The two started to brawl when Straub tries to go after Hiebert again but he was held off by Matt Burto and Jordan Cameron. Dougherty eventually pushed Hiebert back down to the ice before the whole thing broke up.

The result:

Texas - Luke Sellars - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 0:00
Texas - Luke Sellars - (No Category Game Misconduct), 10 min, 0:00
Texas - James Hiebert - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 0:00

Allen - Britt Dougherty - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 0:00

Allen - Brandon Straub - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 0:00
Allen - Brandon Straub - (No Category Game Misconduct), 10 min, 0:00

The four players were scratches in the game. League suspensions are expected. The CHL in their blind wisdom has branded the Brahmas as the instigators. I'm sure the Brahmas will get the brunt of the punishment. As for Straub, I think he can expect a special welcome next time he comes to NYTEX. .

I had just arrived (late) and noticed the fight had broken out when some people in the lobby of NYTEX noticed it. Most of the photos were shot through glass in the lobby so the quality isn't terrific but I think you'll get the idea of what happened after the initial fights.
