Assistant Coach Forbes MacPherson leaves the Texas Brahmas
A new opportunity lures former CHL All-star away
After an 11-year professional hockey career and a successful season as the assistant coach of the Texas Brahmas, Forbes MacPherson has confirmed he is leaving the team for a new opportunity.
MacPherson, 36, had a long, successful career beginning with two seasons at the University of New Brunswick. He then played for the University of Prince Edward Island for two seasons and was the team MVP in the 1995-96 season.
MacPherson went pro in 1996 and played the next three seasons for teams in the IHL, CoHL, ECHL and AHL. He played for the WPHL Shreveport Mudbugs in 1998-99 and the WPHL Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in 2000-01.
After the CHL/WHPL merger, he played for five more seasons with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs In 287 games played, MacPherson tallied 260 points (89 G, 171 A) and 394 penalty minutes. He contributed to the playoffs in four seasons recording 35 points (14 G, 21 A) and 71 penalty minutes. During the 2002-03 season, he served as a player assistant with the Mudbugs.
In 2007, MacPherson retired and joined Mudbugs teammate Dan Wildfong as the new coaches of the resurgent Texas Brahmas. The team finished the regular season with a 40-22-2 record and was able make it to the Northern Conference Finals, coming only one game and one goal short of the Finals.
MacPherson will return home to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island with wife Amy, son Owen and new baby daughter, Jewell.
I have been in contact with Forbes and will be doing an interview with him later this week to get additional details and to talk about his year with the Brahmas organization.
