As reported on the Insider yeesterday, the Texas Brahmas have announced that Ron Vogel has accepted the position as Assistant Coach for the 2008-09 season.
From the Brahmas' press release:
Vogel, a former professional goaltender, brings to the bench eight years of experience split between the CHL, East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), United Hockey League (UHL), International Hockey League (IHL) and Europe.
The former goaltender is no stranger to the CHL as he spent one season with the Corpus Christi Rayz in 2006-07 and the now defunct, Border-City Bandits, in 2000-01. A majority of Vogel’s career was spent in the ECHL where he played three seasons, registering a 66-39-9 record.
Hockey fans may recognize Vogel from his days in the NAHL with the Texas Tornado. In his time spent in Texas, the London, ONT native posted a .925 save percentage and averaged a sparkling 2.22 GA in one season.
"Looking back at all the great things the Brahmas accomplished last season, this seemed like a perfect opportunity for me in my new coaching career. I cannot wait to get the season started and give the fans another year of incredible Brahmas achievements," Vogel said.
Brahmas former Assistant Coach, Forbes MacPherson, will be leaving the Brahmas organization to pursue a career outside of hockey back home in Prince Edward Island.
"My family and I enjoyed our stay in North Richland Hills and will definitely miss support from the fans and organization. On behalf of my family, I want to thank the great Brahmas fans, the community, and Brahmas and NYTEX staff for a great year and wish the best of luck to the team," said MacPherson.
