Southern Conference Finals
Game 5

After the game...a few minutes with Scott Sheppard, Brett Jaeger and Dan Wildfong

This is from a brief time spent with Scott, Brett and Fonger after the game for quotes needed for the post-game write up for Intotheboards.net.

Scott Sheppard

Q: What was your impression of the game?

A: It was a big win. I think a lot of guys stepped up and did a lot of things. Obviously, Jaegs played well again. We helped them a little too much there down the stretch in the third period where it was 6-2; we kind of sat back too much. We made it a lot more interesting than we wanted to or needed to, but at the end of the day we got the win and that’s all that matters.

Q: Do you think this will give you some momentum going to game six down in Odessa?

A: It’s a tough barn to play in. It’s kind of a quiet atmosphere. They’ve been good at home as of late, so we just can’t change anything up.

Q: Feel good getting the hat trick?

A: Yeah; scoring goals to help the team win. It feels good. Whether it’s one or two; however many...as long as we’re winning, that’s all that matters.

Brett Jaeger

Q: What was your impression of the game?

A: It was obviously our best win of the series. Guys really worked hard and played with a lot of energy. (“D played really well” shouted by Kevin McLeod) D of course played really well (laughing). Everyone just came to play tonight and it was a big game for us.

Q: You had a lot of pressure in net tonight…

A: It’s playoff hockey so of course, there’s a lot of traffic. Guys were going to the net and scoring dirty goals, they scored on a couple of rebounds and screen shots and such, so it makes a goalie’s job a lot tougher, but we battled through it.

Q: One game to win to go to the championship series – how do you feel?

A: It’s exciting. You kind of wish you were playing a little bit sooner than Thursday to keep the momentum going but it’s a good feeling and hopefully we can get one more win.

Dan Wildfong

Q: What was your impression of the game?

A: You know, I thought it was a great crowd, great atmosphere and it’s nice, obviously to get the win. I thought our boys came out really hard and when we got down a goal, we didn’t quit, we just kept going. It was one of those games where there was a lot of penalties as well but it was aggressive. We walked the line but the boys knew how important it was so, that’s why it was bound to be like that.

Q: Was there anything that you weren’t happy about, that you’ll be working on?

A: We’ve got to fix a few things. We didn’t make enough adjustments on the PK, so we’ll have to make a few more adjustments there.

Q: It got a little exciting towards the end there, did you have any concern?

A: Yeah, well they had nothing to lose so they threw everything in, including the kitchen sink. It’s tough to play against when they do that. If we make one more trip or one more pass, we’re gone on a 2-on-none or sometimes a 2-on-1. We just can’t panic in those situations. I think we’ll learn from it. It’s nice getting the win and learning from it than getting the opposite.

Q: You're headed back to the Ector County Coliseum, a tough barn to play in. It seemed like the boys had a bit of a lack of discipline in the last game there. Do you think they learned from that loss?

A: I just think that game down in Odessa, we got away from what we normally do. We started cheating when we were down a goal. That's not us. We gotta, you know, pay the price. When you pay the price, then good things start happening...we know better and nest time, you learn from that. We need to take a lesson from not just losses but wins as well, so hopefully we learned something tonight as well.
