The Texas Brahmas have announced the signing of defenseman Luke Sellars as the newest member of the teams blue line. Sellars, 28, has played the past three seasons in Europe.
The 6’ 1”, 195 pound native of Toronto, Ontario was a second round choice (30th overall) selection of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Entry draft.

"Luke will be a solid, stay at home defenseman who adds grit and strength to our blue line. He is a great fit with our current d-core and we look forward to him taking the ice," Wildfong said.
Sellars played three seasons (1998-2001) of junior hockey with the Ottawa 67's (OHL) and finished with 95 points (21 G, 74 A) and 370 penalty minutes in 171 games. In 2001 the defenseman was instrumental in leading the 67's to the 2001 OHL Championship.
He made his professional debut during the 2001-02 season, splitting time with the Chicago Wolves (AHL) and the Greenville Grrrowl (ECHL). He was also called up for one game with the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL). His combined regular season stats included 14 points scored (4 G, 10 A) with 148 penalty minutes. In 17 games during the 2002 playoffs, Sellars led all ECHL defensemen with seven goals and was a pivotal player in Greenville’s Kelly Cup Championship victory.
The following season, Sellars returned to the Chicago Wolves after four games in Greenville. He had his career best season, tallying 15 points (4 G, 11 A) and 117 penalty minutes in 42 games played. He also played 32 games with the Wolves in 2003-04, scoring eight points (2 G, 6 A) with 72 penalty minutes.
In 2005-06, he played 13 games in the UHL with the Danbury Trashers, scoring five points (1 G, 4 A) with 64 penalty minutes.
The following season, Sellars crossed the pond to begin three seasons of play in Europe, first for the Rodovre Mighty Bulls in Denmark. He also played in Austria, Slovakia and Germany.
Last season, he played with Jokipojat in Finland’s second highest ice hockey league. He tallied 15 points (1 G, 14 A) and 97 penalty minutes in 33 games.
In addition to his hockey career, Sellars is co-owner of the clothing label Artikol.
