Brahmas defeat the Thunder 3-1
Win at home on Fan Appreciation Night
Ok, so it was only the Wichita Thunder, but it was a win, nonetheless. I'm still backed up due to my daughter's 4th birthday, so I'll add more about the game tomorrow night. In the meantime, here is a recap, courtesy of the Texas Brahmas' press release:
It was “Fan Appreciation Night” and the final regular season home game at the NYTEX Sports Centre, and Brahmas fans received all they wanted in a form of a 3–1 victory over the Wichita Thunder.
Texas jumped to an early lead as a scramble in front of Thunder’s goaltender John Daigneau resulted in Tyler Skworchinski’s 15th goal of the season and a Brahmas 1-0 lead.
The third ranked Texas powerplay was set to begin the second with the man advantage, but the Thunder played tight, giving little room for the Brahmas to convert.
The sellout crowd at NYTEX was able to cheer again when rookie forward Matt Burto planted a goal in the back of Daigneau’s net. Kevin McLeod and Travis Banga assisted on the goal.
Wichita found their way on the boards when Chris Tarkir snuck a rebound past Brett Jaeger with 11:22 left in the middle frame. It was the lone goal Jaeger was willing to give up stopping 24 of 25 shots to earn his 30th victory of the season. Skworchinski padded the Brahmas lead with a empty net goal, his second goal of the night.
