Texas Brahmas beat the Laredo Bucks 6-2, take 5-point lead in division
The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Texas Brahmas 6-2 Saturday night, in front of a sell out crowd of 2,369 at the NYTEX Sports Centre. With the loss the Bucks drop to 21-11-4 (46pts), and fall five points behind the Brahmas in the Southeast Division (51 to 46).
The Brahmas (24-10-3, 51pts) jumped out in front as they struck on the power-play 7:13 into the first period. Tyler Skworchinski knocked in a rebound from the high slot past Sebastien Centomo. The goal Skworchinski's eighth of the season. The Bucks (6-7-3 on the road) have given up the first goal in nine of their last 12 games.
Laredo got into some penalty trouble in the first period, taking five minors and allowing the Brahmas to go one-for-four on the power-play.The Bucks were outshot in the first period 9-5.
Texas increased their lead to 2-0 6:22 into the second as they took advantage of a five-on-three power-play. Grant Jacobsen scored his 17th of the year, as he banged in a rebound from the left circle past Centomo. Laredo outshot Texas in the second period 10-8.
Texas scored four third period goals, as Travis Banga, Marc Belanger, Jason Deitsch, and Kevin McLeod all tallied for the Brahmas.
Adam Rivet cut the Texas lead to 3-1 as he rifled in a power-play goal 5:02 into the third period. It was Rivet's sixth of the year.
Then Texas would score three straight goals to increase their lead to 6-1, as Belanger (5:50), Deitsch (10:18), and McLeod (14:06) struck for the Brahmas.
Rick Kozak would make it 6-2 Brahmas as he scored with 2:22 left in the third period. Kozak's 14 goal of the year was assisted by Jeff Bes and Serge Dube.
Centomo set aside 22 of 28 Brahmas shots, while Brett Jaeger stopped 27 of 29 Bucks attempts to pick up the win.
The Bucks were playing with 14 skaters Saturday night, as All-Star Darryl Smith, Jaye Judd, and Ryan Salvis sat out with minor injuries.
