Justin Kinnunen called up to the AHL

All-Star defenseman recalled by the San Antonio Rampage

Texas Brahmas defenseman Justin Kinnunen has been called up by the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League. Rampage General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that they have signed Kinnunen to a professional tryout offer (PTO). He will replace David Schlemko who was recalled by the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL).

Kinnunen, 27, a two-time CHL All-Star has 23 points (9 G, 14 A) in 31 games for the Brahmas. He is tied for fifth on the team in points with 23 and has the top plus-minus ranking with a +12.

The Negaunee, Michigan native tallied two goals and seven assists through 14 games in the playoffs last year for the Brahmas. During the 2007-08 regular season he posted 11 goals and 32 assists in 64 games.

"This is a great opportunity for Justin, it just goes to show that hard work pays off. He is one of the elite defensemen in this league and we are extremely proud to have him as part of our organization," said Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong.

The Rampage hope to rebound from a disappointing loss to West Division-rival Peoria Rivermen whom they host again today at the AT&T Center. Peoria scored with 30.7 seconds remaining to win 2-1 on Friday.
