The Insider Interview - Erik Spady

The first year defenseman talks about the transition to the pro ranks, his teammates and playing Texas Brahmas hockey

In his first pro season with the Texas Brahmas, hard-working defenseman Erik Spady has easily become a fan favorite. Spady, 22, has contributed 11 points (4 G, 7 A, +10) and 87 Penalty Minutes (2nd on the team) in 59 games played. Spady and fellow defenseman Andrew Lackner are the only two players on this season's roster to start every game.

He's an instigator, a fighter when he needs to be, and like the rest of the men on the roster, Spady is a team player - ready at all times to play his particular role in the Brahmas' quest for a second President's Cup.

Before joining the Purple and Black, Spady played four seasons at Northern Michigan University (CCHA) where he tallied 20 points (4 G, 16 A) and 110 PIM in 134 games played.

Prior to his time with the Wildcats, Spady played two seasons with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks (BCHL), contributing 58 points (14 G, 44 A) and 178 PIM in 109 regular season games played. He added six points (2 G, 4 A) and 11 PIM in 16 post-season contests.

I had an opportunity to speak with Spady earlier today; here is our conversation:
