Texas Brahmas begin longest road trip of the season

First stop: Mississippi Riverkings

The Texas Brahmas embark on a six-game road trip that will begin at the Desoto Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi for a two-game series this weekend against the RiverKings. The Brahmas beat the RiverKings 4-2 in their home opener back on October 18th.

The RiverKings announced today that they have signed former Augusta Lynx forward Dallas Steward. This season with the Lynx, Steward scored nine points (2 G, 7 A) with 39 penalty minutes in 18 games. He will play tonight, wearing the number 15 sweater.

Here are some stats and other information (compiled from the RiverKings website) to consider.

The RiverKings (12-9-0, 24 points) were 4-3-0 against the Brahmas last season, winning three of four games at home. The Brahmas won two of three games at the NYTEX Sports Centre. In
the playoffs, the Brahmas won a first-round mini-series with the RiverKings, two games to one.

They have a 5-3-0 home record. They have a 7-3-0 record in the team's last ten games, and are 3-2-0 in their last five contests. When scoring the first goal, Mississippi is 10-4-0 in 14 games. They are 4-0-0 when ahead after two periods and 0-3-0 when trailing after 40 minutes.

In home games this year, the RiverKings are ninth in the league on the power play at 14.3% (9-of-63). Overall, Mississippi enters the week 12th in the CHL on the power play at 16.0% (26 of 162). On home ice this season, Mississippi is sixth in the CHL on the penalty kill at 82.4% (9-of-51). The RiverKings overall on the PK, stand ninth in the league at 81.5% (27-of-146).

Louis Dumont continues to lead the CHL in shorthanded goals with four. Dumont is seventh in the three-star standings with 18 points, including one number-one star, four number-two stars, and one number-three stars. Louis leads the team in scoring at home with eight points on three goals and a team-leading five assists. Two of his three goals scored on home ice have been shorthanded scores. Four of Dumont's team-leading 14 assists have come in the team's last five games.

Former Brahma Brad Bonello played his third game Saturday night since recovering from an injury last month. Bonello had scored two goals and four points prior to sitting out with the injury.

Kevin Beech (10-6-0) will get the start tonight in goal for the RiverKings. He leads the CHL in victories with 10 and in minutes played at 962. Beech is 5-2-0 in home games this season with a 2.15 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .912. In the RiverKings’ last five contests, Beech is 1-1-0 with a goals-against-average of 3.00 and a save percentage of .908.
